We own a Chinese restaurant and want to buy a vehicle which can run or our used oil or a combo using our oil.

6/17/08

We own a Chinese restaurant in GA and want to buy a vehicle which can run or our used oil or a combo using our oil and/or diesel. If the vehicle could also be a hybrid, all the better.

Naturally we would like to buy the least expensive vehicle which performs well, saves maximum fuel and costs, environmental friendly, etc. with no modification necessary or the least amount of modification possible, etc.

What do you or anyone recommend? Where is the best place to buy, modify, etc.

Thanks

Not too relevant to which car to buy, but you may want to check with your DMV or assessor's office about road taxes. If you aren't buying gas at the pump, you'll need to figure out how to pay the equivalent road taxes or risk getting ticketed and fined. You know how those Georgia revenuers are!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetable_oil_used_as_fuel - a little summary of all things related to using vegetable oil as fuel. I don't think you'll want to convert a new car to this just yet, but it seems worthwhile to convert an older diesel (like the MB) for a small cost.

The people I know who own a Chinese restaurant use caustic soda to mix with the filtered oil to make glycerin soap.

I have been using a 50% blend of diesel and used veggy oil in my 06 Liberty CRD for two months, without sacrificing performance. No modifications to vehicle. Simple homemade filtering and blending system. No experience in cold weather yet.

Pre-2004 VW TDI (before the pumpe-duse engine).

There are conversion-kits available that include all piping and heaters to keep the WVO (Waste Vegatable Oil) in a liquid state. At around 50MPG, a 6-gallon tank in place of the spare-tire can give you about 300 miles!
