    Yes, there is a problem in 1997-1999 4L60E trannys with a weak sun shell gear that tends to strip teeth and fail. They are stamped steel and not very strong, so they are the weak link in the otherwise good tranny. However, you may just have a slipping reverse band so I would check that first. You should drop the pan and check for metal teeth and shavings. If there is a lot in the pan, then expect you need a full rebuild. Some small metal shavings would be normal. If not, try and tighten the reverse band, change the fluid and filter and see what happens. Good luck!
