Don't listen to Tony.... with all respect Tony. But the reason I say that is because he just stating that it is a salesman's trick...

The truth is every new vehicle comes with it. It is mandatory. It apart of front and rear crumple zones.

What happens is on every hood there is what is called "J-hooks" on both sides of the hood by the front windsheild. On a front impact where the hood is pushed into the drivers compartment. These J-Hooks hold the hood in place. Thenergy absorbing part is that the hoods are designed to fold up into a accordian. Preventing injury from the hood going through the windsheild and causing the worst.

Hope thatis helpful,

An energy absorbing vehicle hood is kinda of a sales trick,,because all metal.rubber and plastic in a collision absorb impact energy.

What you should really be lookin for are energy absorbing air bags,,that will be absorbing the energy from you when your being tossed about in a crash.

5 vehicles that have an energy absorbing hood,,huh ? Every car that has ever been built since the model A.

To add to Tony's comment about eenergy absorbing airbags.....

Some manufacturers already have done that on the front airbags. They are called advanced air bags. Which is basically a airbag inside a airbag. The first air that deploys isn't a standard air bag. It is softer and designed to slow your momentum down. Fractions of a second later the standard airbag deploys reducing injury to the head and neck.

Have a great day,

Its true,,don't listen to me,,what i really ment is that the hood does absorb energy in a collision as does side impact door beams, b-pillars, foam bumper inserts, padded dashboards, etc.

Thanks greenpea for the correction.
