    Depends on how much you want to tow, but in very general terms you need HORSEPOWER and you should have a fairly long wheelbase (distance from middle of front tires to middle of rear tires).

    If you are going to launch boats, 4X4 or AWD is better.

    so first off, determine the maximum towing weight---this means the weight of your trailer, your "load" and the weight of any cargo or passengers in the vehicle while you're towoing.

    If you are looking to tow a lot there are a few good ones. You really didn't state whether it's full sized or medium SUV's. The Nissan Armada is a monster at 9,000 lbs towing, the previous body style Dodge Durango with the 5.7 Hemi has 8,950 lbs towing. The Ford Expedition and the Chevy Tahoe will work if you are going big. There are others in the mix but these few do stand out.
