Most likley cause is the trunk tamper switch. It's part of the lock cylinder in your trunk lid. If you don't want to replace the switch you can just cut the wire that leads to the lock cylinder & tape it off. What you need to look for is to see if the cable that is connected to the lock cylinder is coming apart, if it is then this is your problem. You could also have door tamper switches that are bad, but the trunk tamper switch is most likely the problem. I have repaired numerous Buicks, Chevys & Pontiac cars this way with this exact same problem. Hope this helps.

If your car doesn't have the tamper sensors on doors and trunk using the security light, it probably is the VATS system sensing a change in the resistance of the wires and contacts that read the resistor chip in the key. The Vehicle Anti Theft System can turn off starting the car or it may just be on sensing the resistance has changed but not keep the car from starting. The major problems are the wires' fine threads breaking at the point where the tilt wheel bends them. A few broken threads means the resistance of the group has changed. Also the metal contacts at the resistor chip on the key inside the key cylinder can wear and change. But most likely is the wires.

Replace the circuit that goes up through the column with a resistor the same as the chips on the key. Theft alarm installation shops do this all the time so their theft alarm controls the car and the VATS is turned off.
