I do not know the cost to replace the batteries, but I can tell you that I purchased a new 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid 4wd in 2004 (one of the first). The vehicle currently has over 130,000 miles, still getting the same great gas mileage, and there is no sign of the batteries weakening. I average approximately 18,000 miles per year of driving and plan on keeping the vehicle at least another year.
