    There is a big difference. A blown head gasket is far more common and involves replacing a cheap little gasket between the head and the engine block. A cracked head means you need to replace the head, which is expensive, and the gasket. Wether it is a gasket or cracked head is impossible to tell untill you pull the head off. The symptoms are exactly the same.
