    Actually, most acronyms mean nothing. Germans tend to use a designation that gives you the engine size and the type of car (coupe, sedan etc) as in a Mercedes Benz 500C for example. X usually means 4 wheel drive and i means fuel injected. The Japanese on the other hand tend to make up names that have no meaning (Altima, Maxima etc) and acronyms that also mean nothing.

    they are simple ways to tell different trim levels apart from one another in the same type of vehicle. i.e F-150 XL, XLT, LARIET and FX are all different as far as radios and interior fabrics etc. etc. all manufacturers use them to some degree. hope this helps. good luck.
