What would be a fair purchase price for a 2008 Porsche Boxster with an MSRP of $53K, considering it's year end?
Hello. I want to buy a 2008 Boxster, base model, with preferred package plus with Tiptronic. The MSRP is $53,440. What would be a good price for this? Should I expect to pay as low as invoice, or even lower? Thanks in advance!

True Market Value is your best indicator of what people in your area are paying, and that would be the price to try to beat. TMV in my area is about midway between invoice and MSRP right now.Whether a dealer wants to deal depends on lots of factors - the biggest limiter for you is that Porsches have a reputation for being in demand and in limited production (this may not be true, but that's the perception in some markets and the dealers may use that against you). When you start the negotiations, point out that the lot needs to be cleared of old stock to make room for the '09 Boxters and that you will lose a bunch of money in depreciation when you drive it off the lot, since your new car will essentially be a year old. If you don't plan to keep the Porsche for six years or so, you could get hammered pretty good on trade in. The dealer may not be too sympathetic to that argument though. So, I'd offer no more than invoice to start (plus any incentives) and shop around. If the dealer is trying to meet a year end sales goal, maybe you'll drive away with a deal!

Porsche sales are off almost 50% from their record numbers of a year ago. Boxsters are getting their biggest upgrade since '07, but those cars won't be coming in till February. A lot of Boxster buyers are waiting. Boxster sales are down over 60% from a year ago. I'm certain you can get a Boxster as you described, very close to invoice.
