    Oh they're pretty good on gas...you should get 25--30 mpg unless there is a) something wrong or b) you install a Weber carburetor---then you'd be lucky to get 20.

    If you have the original SUs and you're getting poor mileage, then something is wrong with them. They are probably the most perfectly designed carburetors in the world, but they do wear out..the throttle shafts get loose and also the jet needles wear out.

    Last of all, sometimes mechanics who don't know what they are doing 'adjust' them, and it's often not for the better.
