Used car buying best times are monthly, the end of the month is one of the best times because those vehicles sitting on the lot the longest have depreciated. Used vehicle values change weekly because the "Black Book" sent by Hearst is what used car managers and wholesalers use as a guide. Certain used vehicles have to be sold by the end of the month or they will be sent to the auction. This is not something dealers like because each vehicle sent to the auction cost money to send through the lanes. It is difficult to determine what vehicles need to be sold and salesmen don't know unless the used car manager tells them. Used vehicles are normally kept 60-90 days because of weekly deprecitaion so again end of each month is your best time. If you want to get even deeper the last Saturday is good, Saturday is always the biggest selling day due to traffic coming into the dealership. 10:00 in the morning is the best time on Saturday because the sales meeting has ended and bonuses are disclosed for the days sales and no one is there but sales people. Most customers don't come into dealerships until around 1:00, why I don't know but use this info to your best.

Depending where in the country that you live, to a certain extent, after Sept. 15th until
March 15th on a convertible especially if you live in northern US and between March 15th
to Sept. 1 or so on a 4WD for same reasoning.

Who wants to buy a convertible in Dec if for example you lived in Minnesota? If you found one there then, the value has dropped faster because of the current weather.

Who wants to buy most 4WD SUVs with their typical lower MPG if the weather is warm?
