What is the earth ground for a 1993 SAAB 9000L Turbo?

I have a 1993 Saab 9000L Turbo. I thought the alternator was bad. Before replacing it my battery would go dead and when I turned the heater on the lights would go out. I had to drive holding the high beam bar to keep the lights on when it happened. Now after the alternater has been replaced, the dash board lights and the information buttons don't light up to give me the information. This had been happening before the alternator replacement also. I think it's a ground but I don't know what ground, where it is, or anything. What is the earth ground on the SAAB? Thank you.

Why don't you test this theory first.

1. Follow the negative cable of the battery to its ground and make sure it is clean and tight.

2. Take ONE battery cable and ground the engine to some part OTHER than the engine that is clean (unpainted) metal.

Then see if the ground was the issue or not.
