What makes my 2000 Hyundai Elantra roar inside my car when moving? It's not as bad when I turn the wheel.

Just started making noise like bad muffler. Sound seems to be right under driver's feet. Only does it when I'm moving and seems to quite down when I make a curve. Made 3 trips, driving around 75mph so not the transmission.

Just a guess, but I think you may have a rusted out part of your front exhaust. When you are stopped, you are idling at what, 650-700 rpms, but while underway, you are probably well over 2000 rpms and probably 3000 rpms at 75 and pushing much more volume past a hole. Think of it as a wind instrument that requires a certain volume of air to create sound. There's also the possibility that your axles are starting to go, but a roar suggests a hole in your exhaust. Its much easier to see on a lift. Next time your car is on a lift, ask them to check your front pipe.

I have a similiar noise in my 2001 Elantra. I was puzzled until if figured it was the vent. Now when I hear the sound I crack the window slightly, not enough to hear any wind . This has solved my problem. Try it and see if it works for you
