What makes a knocking sound after a Jeep Cherokee 1995 model runs into a big pot hole?
Anything i start the engine, there is this knocking sound accompanying every revving. But as i drive on high speed, the sound is not heard again. What happened is that, i ran into a huge & deep pot hole in the middle of the road. Immediately, this sound begins. Please i need answers and the scare of a possible knocked engine i cannot imagine. Thanks Charles, Nigeria

Charles,I'm not an expert on Jeep, but generally when a car, especially SUVs hit a pothole and make a knocking or thumping noise, it means either the ball joint, shock tower, or suspension bushing is damaged (can be more than one of them). Try this, does your car make clicking or knocking noise when taking sharp turns? If it does then most likely the ball joint is damaged. As for the knocking sound when the car starts I'm not sure, I can only think of knocked engine. But if the body rattles as well it may be the impact from the damaged suspension parts.Goodluck.
