    There are plenty of oils that far exceed Toyota's and other manufacturer's requirements. So there are many oils that will be fine for this engine. I think a lot of us use synthetics, but not many of us feel strongly enough to participate in the sandbox over at:

    The truth is that oil-related failures are rare nowadays. Everything else is more likely to fail than the engine for oil quality reasons.

    There are so many great oils. I use Castrol Edge in my subarus only because I've seen some impressive tests, but I err on the side of overkill. Use the correct weight - as specified by Toyota and check it often. Ask 20 people about the best oil and you'll get 20 different answers - and they might all be right.
