    If the PS fluid is burnt, then you probably have a bad pump. It may work for awhile but will eventually fail and possibly break the serpentine belt if you have one when it siezes up. You need to get the PS pump replaced as soon as possible. At a minimum I would check to make sure the PS pump is bolted securely to the mount and change the PS fluid to see if that helps.

    If not a bad power steering pump, than a bad idler pulley bearing would be my second guess.
