What to do when a finance manager tries to get more money after the deal is done ?

I told the finance guy I pay a 9.5% sales tax. He said my domical code showed that I pay 8.0%. 30 days later he calls to tell me that I owe $494.00 !!! and I can't get my tags until I pay. Help!!!!!

9.5%! Ouch!

Assuming that the address you gave was accurate, I am unclear as to why his software did not automatically apply the correct amount. However, there are two ways to look at this:
a) This is a completely legit mistake and that you actually own this money. Send a check!

b) He should pay for his mistake.

Possible scenario: Tell him that you will split the cost with him for the hassle.

At your 9.5% tax rate, do you actually owe $494.00? If so, I'd be honest and pay it since you told him 9.5%. He can't help it if he didn't hear you correctly or is just plain stupid.

$494 is 1.5% of $32,933 so if thats what the car cost treat it as an honest mistake, it didn't really cost you anything. If the car cost less than that then he's padding his profit.
