It's the (next generation) 2010 Prius that is planned to be introduced at the Detroit Auto Show in January, along with a Lexus version and possibly another new hybrid-only Toyota. The next generation Prius is said to be slightly larger than the current model and it is expected to be in showrooms in April of 2009.

From what I understand the 2009 Prius will be unchanged from the 2008. I would guess the 2009s will start arriving any day now. Other manufacturers are already delivering 2009s to their dealers.

Toyota's production of 2008s were hurt by battery shortages. Hopefully that problem is getting solved with new production facilities that are ramping up.

Note that Honda is planning to introduce a Prius-like hybrid next year, too, that will be less expensive.

Dealer in Tucson just called and said their first 2009 Prius is on the ship and will hit LA in two days. They said it should be ready to pick up in two weeks.

Once they start producing the 2009 - they don't do 08, so if you go order a new 2008 at your favorite dealer, chances are you will get the 2009. At least you will be on the waiting list and will get your turn earlier.

A friend of mine was told the 2009 Prius he ordered 4 or 5 months ago is on the boat and should be ready for pick-up in a 3 or 4 weeks!
