ok there are 3 reasons here, a. the starter is defective, b. the starter is not shimmed correctly, c. gear teeth are broken off of the flywheel ring gear.
in a. remove starter and take to auto store and have it bench tested.
in b, consult service manual for correct shims and placement.
in c. remove transmission from vehicle, replace flywheel/flywheel ring gear.
lets hope that its a. or b. as c. is the most expensive.
