    On a 2002 Sportage it's on the passenager side near the rear fender above the axle mounted to the frame. You should change the filter every 3 years or so. Your best bet with bad gas is to insert a syphon hose into the gas filler neck and syphon out as much of the bad gas as you can into a suitable container. Then fill the gas tank with clean gas and allow the clean gas to clean out the lines. It may run rough for awhile as the clean gas gets through all the way to the fuel rail and injectors but after half a tank it should run fine.
