The ignition coil on the 2000 Elantra is a black box with four spark plug wire sockets on it; which is located at the common end of all the spark plug wires. It is actually two double ended coils combined into one unit. This type of coil is called a coil pack. And this type of ignition system is called a DIS system (for distributorless ignition system). There is no distributor on this car. The coils are electronically timed and triggered from signals generated by the Crankshaft Position Sensor, the Crankshaft Angle Sensor, and the Camshaft Position Sensor.
