    Usually there is a tab you lift up next to the shifter, and insert a screwdriver to release the lever.


    As for the cause, check to see if you lost your brake lights--if you did, then your brake light switch or brake light fuse is bad---either of those problems will prevent the shifter from movement.

    If not those two causes, then the shift-interlock solenoid might be bad.
