Excellent question.

Why pay doc fees at all, whether you're paying cash or financing?

All it takes is a bit of time to go to DMV and register a car - it's not rocket science and it's hard to figure out how some dealers manage to charge several hundred dollars for this "service."

I purchased my last car used from a friend, and I was in and out of DMV in an hour.
