    Has the car been towed to a repair shop? You can't leave it too long in the breakdown lane of a highway. If it has not been towed yet, you can have it towed to a shop in that area of your preference. To find an honest mechanic, we've had good luck with this site:

    Just enter the zip code where the car is broken down.

    When this happens, the fear is that the engine has seized and that parts have been damaged or warped beyond repair. Have a mechanic look at it. You can help by looking to see if there is any oil showing on the dipstick - and also note any fluids on the ground under the car.
