Why would my headlights not automatically come on at night.?

My headlights would not automatically come on at night and I would have to flicker my dim switch (bright light) for them to come on. Weeks later they just stopped working - well very seldom. I have to hold my bright light switch while driving at night which is not GOOD. Any Ideas to what may be causing my Baby MC this PAIN.

Make model and year of car would help. The flash-to-pass brights are generally on a separate circuit and switch so that's why they're still working for that function but obviously you need to get this fixed . Your problem is probably in the headlight relay or the switch.. more info would help.
