Should be the same but you might have some wiring & sensor issues.

The 2000 2.4 liter Eclipse and Galant engines are identical; they have the same part number; so there will be no wiring or sensor issues.

I called the guy that had the motor for the galant i asked him if it was a 2.0 or 2.4 he said he thinks its a 2.0 that he would have to look and its a 2004 model. my eclipse is a 2000 and has a 2.4. both engines are sohc and look alike but im not sure if trans will bolt up. if they do i can switch everything else if i need to

There was no 2.0 engine used in the 2004 Galant; it is a 2.4, and it is the same part number as yours. It will bolt up, and everything will fit. But if the Galant had an automatic transmission, and your Eclipse has a manual tranmission; you'll need to change the flywheels, and make sure that the crank on the Galant engine is drilled to accept a clutch pilot bearing. If the crank will not take a pilot bearing; it couldn't be used.
