The security system does not have a time delay feature about the starter. Sounds to me more like it is time for a new battery. Batteries lose reserve capacity as they age; which shortens the length of time that it can produce enough power to run a starter. The lights and stereo need much less power than the starter, so the fact that they still run does not eliminate a battery or alternator problem. Try turning the headlights on, and watching their brightness while trying to run the starter. If the lights dim way down or go out when you try to start; it comes from a weak battery. If the headlights do not dim when trying to start; the starter relay is probably bad.
