Would my factory stereo cd player's base setting being all the way up cause my cd player to skip?

I have a 06 GMC Quad Cab Z71, I have recently had the cd player skip during a song on a store bought cd. I have cleaned it the way you are supposed to, but it keeps doing it. I took it to the dealership, they say the bass setting was too high (all the way up), after they dropped it a click or two, it stopped doing it. I am thinking ? WHY HAVE SETTING TO BE ABLE TO GO THAT HIGH IF IT IS DISRUPTING PERFORMANCE? Am I getting told a fixit but don't fixit lie?

Please and thank you to a reply.
