Judging from the problems reported on this site; I would stay away from Jeep Cherokees; since they seem to have more problems than any other SUV we hear about. The problems seem to be found in many different systems, so it's more an issue of overall reliability and quality; rather than just one area. I would also stay away from Ford Expeditions and Explorers because they have many transmission and electrical problems. But I haven't seen many problems with Chevy Trailblazers.
If you're willing to consider imported SUVs; I would also suggest looking at the Toyota 4 runner, Highlander, and Land Cruiser; plus the Infiniti QX 56 and FX 45; the Acura MDX, and the Lexus LX 470. These vehicles are built to a different level of quality.
