hard to remove ford fuel filter on a 93 explorer

I HAVE A '93 FORD EXPOLORER EB, I CAN'T SEEM TO GET THE FUEL FILTER OFF, I HAVE NO PRESSURE ON THE LINES, AND STILL IT WON'T RELEASE AND COME OFF, PLEASE HELP.

They can sometimes be a pain to get them to release, add to the fact that there is an 0-ring in there that sometimes can lock itself onto the filter and rust and debris can often get into the "spring lock".

What I usually do is get a can of brake cleaner spray, with the little straw and put neoprene gloves and safety glasses and spray into where the spring lock is to clean out any debris.

Then make sure you have the correct size release tool and push it into the spring lock connectors. Sometimes you have to push fairly hard to get them to release, as you push on the release tool, gently twist and pull on the filter.

If the spring gets damaged in the process, NAPA sells repair kits that include the springs.
