Dozens of things may cause oil to leak, the area leaking often is a clue. A bad leak (puddle) under the timing cover (driver's side of the motor) is often the balance shaft seal. These have a habit of blowing out and Honda sells a kit to prevent this from recurring. Leaks at the back of the motor (center of the car) are often a rear main seal. Other possible leaks include the valve cover gasket, oil pan, front crank seal, the distributor O-ring and the VTEC valve, if so equipped.
