I've never heard of an engine throwing a rod because of it being hit by another car, so make sure you get a second opinion on the engine. If you do need a rebuilt engine, your local yellow pages should be consulted for "engine rebuilders" under the auto repair section. You can also buy rebuilt engines from national rebuilders via the internet. Just do a search for "rebuilt engines". My recommendation would be that you find a good mechanic first and ask them for a quote on replacing the engine with a rebuilt unit. I would go to Car Talk’s Mechanics Files site at http://www.cartalk.com/content/mechx/find.html Enter your zip code and you will get a list of mechanics in your area that other consumers have used and highly recommend. Look for ones that specialize either in the make of your car or the type of repair you need. Call 2-3 of them and ask for a ballpark figure on the repair. I have personally used this site with great success to find good honest mechanics and can highly recommend it. Good luck!
