My 96 Dodge Intrepid 3.3 is making a knocking sound

I started it up after sitting for a while and it started making this knoking sound, not the ping knoking but a noise like something is hitting something. but when it warmed up it dampend out a little bit. but it's still knoking.

Thats what is known as,, rod knock , have the oil pressure checked, the knock sensor may have failed, the cylinder may not be firing,

continued operation will lead to serious engine failure, the crankshaft could break or a rod may break and fly through the engine block.

try using a heavier oil if the vehicle is higher in milage 10/40 should free up the valve springs they are probrably gummed up 40 weight has a high detergent which wll clean it out pretty well if it persist you might wanty to look into the internals
