Slipping is usually a sign of low ATF fluid. How does the transmission fluid look? I assume you checked this first. It should be cherry red in color and at the right level with the engine warm, running and in park. If not, then change the transmission fluid and filter first, before you make any expensive repairs. If all is well with the ATF fluid, you probably have a slipping OD band. To be sure, you should go to your mechanic or local auto parts store and have them hook up an OBDII scanner to the vehicle and check for any fault codes. This will tell you if what specific parts, sensors or modules are possibly malfunctioning. It will save you hundreds of $$$ if you know what is wrong before replacing a lot of expensive parts. You should also check Edmunds.com website for recalls and technical service bulletins (TSBs) on your specific vehicle to see if this has been identified as a common problem that they will repair under warranty.
