    It is not uncommon for a vehicle's rating to drift downward as the years pass. When a vehicle is all-new or redesigned it comes to market with latest benchmarks having been incorporated into its design, but as time passes newer models enter the segment with more updated design elements and features. The Equinox was an all-new model in 2005 and quite competitive with other small SUVs. Today it's three years old, and although still worth consideration it's not at the top of its game anymore.
